A student-run AMS club inspiring and uniting UBC's musicians and music lovers to rediscover their love for live performance.

03Since the beginning

Our story

UMI started with a simple idea: a lot of students at UBC make music, and not nearly enough of them get to share it. We host monthly themed events where members showcase their talents and meet the rest of UBC’s music community, and we take that energy off campus with local concerts around Vancouver.

Over the years we’ve added workshops on music production and lyric writing, alumni discussion nights, an equipment rental program with some of the most affordable rates in the city, and a lessons program that pairs volunteer instructors with musicians who are just getting started.

There aren’t a lot of boundaries here. If you love music, whatever you play and however long you’ve played it, there’s a place for you at UMI.

    Add UMI's founding year and the story of how the club started.

    Community grant

    A Utown@UBC Community Grant of over $650 helps fund UMI's monthly events.

    September Shift at the Lev Bukman Theatre welcomes members back to in-person shows.
